Bergamo
Bergamo is a city in the alpine Lombardy region of northern Italy, approximately 40 km northeast of Milan, and approximately 30 km from Switzerland, the alpine lakes Como and Iseo, and 70 km from Garda and Maggiore. The Bergamo Alps (Alpi Orobie) begin immediately north of the city. Bergamo is in the centre of a highly developed industrial and commercial province deeply connected with the whole Europe thanks to "Il Caravaggio" International Airport, the third most important airport in Italy for number of passengers (about 13 millions of passengers each year).
The city of Bergamo is composed of an old walled core, known as Città Alta ("Upper Town"), nestled within a system of hills constituting a regional park, and the modern expansion in the plains below. The upper town is encircled by massive Venetian defensive systems that are a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 9 July 2017.
Secondary School of Economics "Vittorio Emanuele II"
The
Technical Commercial and Tourist Institute "Vittorio Emanuele II" is
the oldest secondary school in the Bergamo. Presently it offers two courses:
AFM (Administration, Finances and Marketing) and Tourism (five-year programmes) It counts more than 1200 students, 130
teachers and 30 administrative/technical/auxiliary employees.
As a leading institution inside the Provincial Touristic Pole, the school cooperates with Bergamo Municipality and many other local stakeholders. Since 2016, the institute has been collaborating with "Il Caravaggio" International Airport on Work Related Learning Projct, obtaining excellent results: around 300 students have carried out internship activities at both S.A.C.B.O., the company managing the whole airport, and BGY International Services, the main handler society operating in the airport.
In the last few years "Vittorio Emanuele II" took part in many European programmes and E-twinning projects. One class is still involved in a project following the recent UNESCO designation of Bergamo in a serial and transnational site as project leader in Lombardy.
